About

Rugby Fit was created by myself, Jason,  to help my players stay connected with me and for me to easily give them tips, advice, articles and more…Rugby Fitness

I started with about 50 guys and within a couple of weeks that virally became a few hundred, then a few thousand and has now reached over 100 000 rugby players world wide…

My training philosophy is to do the basics and to do it well… And then to blend in what what I call WORKOUT OR RUGBY FIT BLASTERS to really up the intensity and to really boost the conditioning of my players…

I feel that too many players spend too much time on bodybuilding type training thinking that that is going to make them better rugby players…

The reality is that in order to become a better player and enjoy the game, you need to become RUGBY FIT…

This involves the things that most players try to avoid, like muscle burning with lactic acid and getting out of breath… Because it’s easier just to lift some heavy weights in the gym convincing yourself that that is going to make you a better player…

There is no need for all the fancy movements and equipment… There are a few basic principles you need to follow, and a few basic movements you need to do in the gym… The rest happens on the field where you hone your basic rugby skills, and your position specific skills…

There are people out there who are trying to convince you that there is a different gym program for every position… This is a myth, especially in the new age of rugby…

All players need to be fit, strong, powerful, agile and fast… There is no place to hide… There may be 1 or 2 exercise that varies according to your position, but the bulk of your gym training is the same… The difference between position specific training comes to i the form of the skills you require for that position… In other words, forwards need to practise scrums, line outs and drives and backs need to practise their lines, line breaks and evasion skills…

This is all putting it into basics, but rugby really isn’t a complicated game… If you don’t believe me, just ask the All Black S&C coach… All their players follow the same basic program, which is then tweaked for each individual based on their strengths and weaknesses…

With Rugby Fit I aim to provide you with the knowledge and resources to help you became a fitter rugby player. and with your new found knowledge, to be able to differentiate between good training, fads and just plain bull shit…
